Privacy Policy

1. The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to provide information to natural persons regarding the processing of personal data in the State Threat Prevention Information System (hereinafter – the System).

2. This Privacy Policy has been developed based on Article 12(1) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation) (hereinafter – the Regulation).

3. The Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior (hereinafter – the Centre) is the manager of the System within the meaning of the Law on State Information Systems. The Centre ensures the operation and maintenance of the System, including the storage of personal data.

4. The legal basis for the processing of personal data is the consent of the natural person (data subject).

5. The purpose of processing personal data in the System is the prevention of threats to national security, including risk assessment, as well as the exchange of data processed in the System between competent authorities for the performance of functions and tasks defined in regulatory enactments.

6. The System processes the following personal data regarding:   

          6.1. Foreign nationals – citizens of any country other than a Member State of the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the European Economic Area, the Swiss Confederation, or the Federative Republic of Brazil – who do not hold a visa or residence permit issued by the Republic of Latvia: name(s), date of birth, nationality, passport details (number, issuing country, issuing date, expiry date), purpose of travel (entry), planned place and duration of stay, travel route, contact information, information on held positions, candidacy in elections, current or former status as state or municipal official, service in armed forces, intelligence or security, border guard, customs, or internal, justice or foreign (including diplomatic) services.   

          6.2. Relatives of the foreign national (grandparents, parents, siblings, spouse and/or actual partner, adult children, as well as grandparents, parents, siblings, adult children of the current or former spouse or partner, and other more distant relatives with whom there is a close relationship) regarding elected positions held.

7. Recipients of personal data are state institutions in accordance with the competence defined in regulatory enactments.

8. Personal data is stored for two years from the end of the respective travel stay in the Republic of Latvia or until the natural person (data subject) withdraws their consent for data processing.

The request must be signed with a secure electronic signature.

9. The Centre does not transfer personal data to third countries (outside the European Union or European Economic Area) or to international organizations.

10. The Centre does not carry out automated decision-making, including profiling.

11. Natural persons have the right to access their personal data, request its correction or deletion, request restriction of processing, object to processing, and submit a complaint regarding the processing of their personal data to the Data State Inspectorate (www.dvi.gov.lv), Elijas iela 17, Rīga, LV-1050 or via email: pasts@dvi.gov.lv.

12. To exercise their rights or withdraw consent for data processing, natural persons may contact the Centre in the following ways:
